Farewell to our Chairman and welcome to our new Chair

At their most recent meeting, the Directors of The John Villiers Trust appointed Dr Cherrell Hirst AO as Chair, following the retirement of Mr Darvell Hutchinson AM on 30 June 2019.  Dr Hirst has been a Director of the Trust since November 2017.

Dr Hirst, on behalf of the Board, noted Mr Hutchinson’s extraordinary service to the Trust as its inaugural Chairman, a period which has spanned almost 17 years.  In acknowledging Mr Hutchinson, Dr Hirst highlighted his substantial contribution to the Trust and to the many charitable organisations that the Trust has benefited.  Dr Hirst, in thanking Darvell, said:

“I would like on behalf of the Board of John Villiers Pty Ltd, and on behalf of the many charitable organisations that The John Villiers Trust has benefited since its formation in 2002, to offer our sincere thanks for your extraordinary service.  We, the Board, have all benefited from the generosity of your time, your expertise in financial and philanthropic matters, and your exceptional leadership over almost 17 years which has seen the growth of the Trust from approximately $6.69 million to almost $25 million currently.

Further and most importantly, your financial stewardship and commitment to philanthropy has meant that over $7.8 million has been distributed as grants to over 100 charitable organisations, all directed to Queensland projects thereby honouring the legacy of John Villiers.”
